Lyndon (Lyn) Isaacson

SGT James Walker Poe, US Army, killed in action 01 JUN 69, Quang Ngai, Vietnam.  The last time I saw Jim was in early 1968 at Wayne State, and he told me that he thought he was going to lose his student deferment.  The next I heard of him was his obituary in the paper.  Knew Jim since 4th grade at Columbus Elementary.  Great guy, RIP.

I remember Jimmy Poe from my earliest days at Columbus. He and a few other classmates were double promoted in about 4th grade where he probably ended up in Lyndon's class. I remember him as an always smiling redhead who knew how to dance like a Cossack. I saw his name printed on the Vietnam Memorial.

I first met Jim at Denby and we became fast friends. He picked me up one Saturday and took me for a terrifying ride on the back of his new motor scooter.....after which he told me that he had just picked it up about two hours prior and was learning how to operate it...but that was Jim!!  We hung around alot together, doubledated etc. I was crushed when my dad (who was choaked up) called to tell me about his death. I was in training with USMC and couldn't get home for his funeral.  If anyone knows where Jim is interned, please let me know.  Great guy with a great sense of humor...I miss him
